Inventing creative experience, from artistic stages to nature

Tanya Steinhauser has worked for 15 years in the arts as creative producer, director, performer, dramaturg and mentor.

She is Co-Director of Field Trip Arts, an organisation based in North Yorkshire, that explores the great outdoors using nature as a playground and collaborator in creating adventures, journeys and events that interrupt the everyday and connect people and communities through shared creative experiences.

She was co-founder and artistic director of performance company Foreign Affairs, creating works for a number of prestigious venues.

She directed and produced a variety of site-specific projects in Germany, Switzerland and the UK. Between 2005-2013, she was creative producer for theatre & dance at ICIA University of Bath, programming and developing a multi-disciplinary arts programme across venues and sites on campus and the city of Bath.

During this time, she produced and supported the development of new projects and artist residencies, and led on the commission of new work, often in partnership with regional and national arts organisations (including new work by Bobby Baker, Protein Dance, Lone Twin, Ben Wright & bgroup, Shobana Jeyasingh and others).

She was a trustee on the board of Pavilion Dance South West and chair and advisor of several arts organisations in the South West of England.

Since 2016, Tanya has led a programme of artistic activity that supports artists and ensures Yorkshire Dance is at the forefront of talent development, art-form development and innovation regionally and nationally in the role of Artist Development Producer.

Tanya has managed a variety of projects with companies touring work inter/nationally, including Theo Clinkard (50+ tour since Nov 2012, including British Dance Edition) and Sylvia Rimat (British Council Showcase, Inbetween Time and Sydney Festival) as independent creative producer.

As artistic mentor and dramaturg she has supported work such as Sylvia Rimat’s This Moment Now and Two Destination Language (Total Theatre Award 2014) Man Power.

Tanya has an MA in Devised Theatre and BA (Hons) Theatre from Dartington College of Arts and a BA (Hons) Cultural Studies and Aesthetic Practice from University of Hildesheim, Germany.
