Jemma
Mae
Dancer
United Kingdom

Jemma is a freelance dance artist based in Leeds. She is an all style dancer, with heavy influence from Afro, Dancehall, Hip Hop and Vogue and performs both nationally and internationally. Jemma trained professionally at Leeds Beckett University in Contemporary dance, and then studied Physical Theatre with Jasmin Vardimon Company at the Royal Holloway University of London, and also with Orian Dance Theatre in Paris. Jemma teaches regularly in the community leading Yorkshire Dance Youth Company and Street Crew, and also as a freelance dance leader for Dance United Yorkshire.

Jemma has a strong interest in dance on screen and has recently co-choreographed and assistant directed an hour-long dance film for the International Video Danse festival of Bourgogne, held in April this year. The film ‘Golden’ fuses Contemporary dance with Vogue, and Hip-Hop influences, and tells a story of a young queer man finding his inner confidence.

Jemma is co-founder and 1/3 of Afro Fusion group Kookie Kulture. In collaboration with fellow Hip Hop and Contemporary artist Bobak Walker, she choreographed a piece on the youth group mixing Hip-hop with Gumboot dance for ‘Fresh’ 2018.
